Hana Awase Mizuchi Hen Card Game's Mini Guide

Hana Awase is a kind of japanese traditional game using Hanafuda (Flower Cards). In this post, however Hana Awase refers to PC otome game with the same name. Hana Awase itself is typical otome game where you as the player choose right choices to get an ending with one of the boys, but sometimes you have to play a mini card game called Hana Utsushi/Hana Awase, so this post is a basic guide to play the mini game.

Unlike some otome games where mini games could be annoying, Hana Utsushi/Hana Awase is fun and addictive to some degree, that if you understand the rules of coure ;). For you who want to know what Hana Awase (otome game) is, you can visit primer.himeutsugi or koikoi.himeutsugi (spoiler free) and Yumemirusekai for the story (full of spoiler).

I took some screenshots for this guide. If the pictures are too small, click them.

Basic

The basic of this game is to attack your opponent with combination of hanafuda cards and try to make their HP bar to be 0. Before read this guide, you should know a little about Hanafuda cards, try this link http://www.hanafubuki.org/ to know what hanafuda is and the basic rules of playing the cards (the rules used in this game is different but the basic still same). I actually read the site, then lost 3 or 4 times before understand the rules ;).

Status

Mikoto (the main character) has four status bars, you can leveling up the status using points you get when you won a battle. Those status affect Mikoto’s performance in battle, so they are very important if you want to win. They are:
  •  HP          : leveling up this status will increase Mikoto’s max HP
  • Offence    :leveling up this status will increase Mikoto’s attack power
  • Diffence   :leveling up this status will increase Mikoto’s defense power
  • Skill        : leveling up this status will unlock useful skills to be used during battle, like healing HP, destroy opponent’s card, raising critical chance, etc.
Battle
1.    Look at your cards and possible combinations shown in pink box, grey cards and card on the right are cards you still don’t have to make the combination. Combinations with リーチ have greater attack power than usual combinations.
2.     Choose cards you want to discard, then click blue button to discard the card(s) and proceed.

3.     By clicking a combination name, you’ll see the cards used for the combination and it’s attack point. Attack points defined by your offense level and the difficulty of making a combination.

4.   You’ll given two choice, the bird one is to make a chain attack (max: 5 chains) called “Koi koi” and the other one to attack. If you choose Koi koi, you can attack several times in one turn, however if after you choose koi koi you don’t have cards that can be combined in your hand, than your attacks will be failed, so be careful. Choose the other choice (the right below one) if you are ready to attack.
5.   After you choose to attack, you’ll go to battle phase. Damage inflicted is defined by your cards’ attack point, your opponent defense level and their max HP.
6.     Back to first window, sometimes you’ll see a yellow button upside the blue one, the button is for skill. You can choose to use a skill before discarding cards. Remember that one skill can be used only once in a battle. The number shown on yellow button is the number of skill you can used, when it become 0 you can’t use skill anymore.
